About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener’s mother, and “inox,” or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The original product dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer’s and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor for versatility.

Customer Review
There is no doubt this is a quality tool.
It feels solid, great texture, great build, I really like it.
While looking at this knife, I was also looking at the Bantam and purchased it as well.
And I must say that if I were just going to grab a blade for the road, it’d be the Bantam.
The Soldier is a solid tool that I would keep in my drawer, toolbox, glove compartment, first aid and survival kit, or camping.
Ha, clearly a useful knife
But the Bantam is just so slim and low-profile … if all you need is a blade and bottle opener (which you can use for wedging and whatnot), well, the Bantam is an every-day-carry kind of friend… it’s slimness makes it feel like the preferred “fast grab” for me if I think I’ll need a blade
Of course, this is a Soldier review … don’t get me wrong, the Soldier is not a huge bulk by any stretch, it’s just a solid serious instrument and I can see myself reserving its use for when I really need it (or if it happens to be nearer than the Bantam).
Now I say all this with the Bantam sitting in front of me and my Soldier back at home… truth be told, I wouldn’t want to have one without the other — they are a perfect combination to have in your arsenal… but I can see having 2 or 3 Bantams for every one Soldier… call me crazy
Both feel “right” in the hand… great material.
Love ‘em!
Great gentlemen’s folder – ashin220 – ashin220
I got tired of some of the looks I got when pulling out my Spyderco or Benchmade knives. Even my SOG Twitch II would have people look at me differently. I needed a knife for those occasions and places where pulling a knife out would be in bad taste. This knife is perfect. Everyone, familiar with knives or not, is familiar with Swiss Army knives. This version in aluminum instead of red is elegant enough to carry in my suit and the blade shape is very unthreatening. It not being a lock blade, I am able to carry it in my pocket in Los Angeles instead of having to clip it plain view.
Great EDC pocket knife – 6thtexas – Boerne, Texas
This may be the closest thing to the best all-around pocket knife I’ve seen. I’ve used every tool on it and they all work as promised. The blade can be sharpened to where it will shave. The knife is compact, slim, and inobtrusive. I am sold on Victoinox tools!
